Govt. 643: Sovereignty, Nationalism and State Formation in Asia

| This course will consider how the historical development of sovereignty and nationalism shaped state formation in modern Asia. We will also evaluate sovereignty and nationalism as analytic categories - as causes and consequences - in the Asian context. Cases material will emphasize South Asia, Greater China, and South East Asia. The written requirement is a choice of multiple short essays or a longer synthesis-cum-research paper. | |
